Getting started

Using the web vault

Open your Vallkey vault in any browser with nothing to install, and what the web vault does differently from the apps.

The web vault opens your account in any modern browser, with nothing to install. It’s for the times you’re away from your own devices, for managing your account, and for recovering it.

Enter your email, your master password and your Secret Key. Your Secret Key is in your Emergency Kit, and under Account in any Vallkey app that’s logged in.

What it does

Everything the apps do with your vault: every kind of item, files, vaults, sharing, your family, legacy contacts, the Security view, import and export, your devices, and your recovery code.

What’s different

  • Nothing is saved in the browser. Locking, reloading or closing the tab forgets everything, and the next login downloads your vault again. So the web vault needs a connection.
  • It doesn’t fill web pages. That’s the browser extension’s job.
  • It doesn’t clear the clipboard. A web page can’t check what’s on the clipboard, so clear what you copy yourself.
  • It locks after 15 minutes without keyboard or mouse input, or the time you choose under Account.

When to prefer the apps

A web page’s code comes from the server each time you open it. Someone who controlled the server could change that code. The apps and the browser extension don’t load their code from the server, so on devices you use often, prefer them.

Recovering your account

Forgot your master password?, on the log-in page, recovers your account with your recovery code and a code Vallkey emails you. See Recovering your account.
