The extension is where Vallkey fills, saves and suggests passwords. It runs in Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Safari, and in the browsers built on them: Brave, Opera, Vivaldi, Arc and Chromium install the Chrome extension from the Chrome Web Store, and LibreWolf, Waterfox, Floorp and Zen install the Firefox one from Firefox Add-ons. The desktop app pairs with all of them, except Floorp and Zen, which it pairs with on Linux only.
Click the Vallkey button in the toolbar, and log in with your email, master password and Secret Key, or create an account. The extension keeps your vault on this computer, encrypted, so it works offline.
Fill a login
Click the username or password field on a sign-in page. A menu under the field lists the logins saved for that site, best match first. Pick one with the mouse, or press the down arrow and Enter.
Vallkey never fills a page by itself when it loads: it fills only what you pick.
In Firefox and Safari, the menu asks you to confirm before it fills. Those browsers can’t tell an extension whether a page is covering the menu, so Vallkey asks rather than guess.
The popup
| Tab | What it’s for |
|---|---|
| This site | The logins saved for the page you’re on, with Fill, and a way to save a new one |
| All items | Everything in your vault: search, open, edit, and add any kind of item |
| Security | Passwords that are weak, reused, in known breaches, or sent without https |
| Account | Your Secret Key, vaults, family, devices, import, export and settings |
The wand at the top of the popup is the password generator.
Keyboard shortcuts
- Ctrl+Shift+Y (Command+Shift+Y on a Mac) opens Vallkey.
- Ctrl+Shift+L fills the login for the site you’re on, when exactly one is saved for it. With more than one, or while Vallkey is locked, it opens Vallkey so you can choose.
Change either in your browser’s extension shortcuts.
When it locks
Vallkey stays unlocked while you browse. It locks when you click Lock, when your screen locks, when the browser closes, and after a time without keyboard or mouse input that you choose under Account: 5, 15 or 60 minutes, or never. See Locking and unlocking.
