A recovery code can be shared between three people you trust. Any two of them can help you back into your account, and one alone can’t. It’s part of Premium, and set up in the web vault.
Set it up
- In the web vault, open Account, Trusted contacts.
- Enter three people’s email addresses. Each needs a Vallkey account.
- Enter your master password.
Vallkey makes a new recovery code, shown once with your Emergency Kit, and gives each person a share of it, sealed so only they can open it.
If you’re a contact
Account, You’re a trusted contact lists whose shares you hold, with Show their code. Read it out only when the person asks you themselves, in person or on a call you made.
Recover with them
- Choose Forgot your master password?, then Use codes from two trusted contacts instead.
- Enter the code Vallkey emails you.
- Enter two contacts’ codes, and choose a new master password.
Everything else goes as with a recovery code.
What to know
- One share says nothing. The code is split so that every possible code fits any single share. Two contacts together have the code, and still need the code emailed to you.
- Shares go stale when your recovery code changes: after any recovery, or when you make a new code. Set your contacts up again.
- Trusted contacts are chosen in the web vault.
