Switch from Proton Pass
Export the export's .zip file from Proton Pass, import it in Vallkey, and keep everything. It takes a few minutes.
Step by step
In Proton Pass
- 1
Open Proton Pass's settings.
- 2
Choose Export, and the unencrypted kind, not PGP-encrypted.
- 3
Keep the .zip file whole, or use its data.json.
In Vallkey
- 4
In Vallkey, open Settings › Import, and choose Proton Pass.
- 5
Choose the export's .zip file. It's read on your device: nothing is sent anywhere unencrypted.
- 6
Check the summary of what will come over, then confirm.
- 7
Delete the export file, and empty the trash it went to: it holds your passwords in the clear.
What comes over
What comes over
- Every item type
- Vault names, as tags, when there's more than one
- Pinned items, as favorites
What doesn't
- Files attached to items: download them first, then add them to the items in Vallkey.
- Items in the trash.
- Email aliases, which become secure notes that keep their details.

Questions
Is it safe to export from Proton Pass?
The export file isn't encrypted, so keep it on your own computer, import it straight away, and delete it afterwards. Vallkey reads it on your device.
Will I lose anything?
A few things can't come over: Files attached to items: download them first, then add them to the items in Vallkey; Items in the trash; Email aliases, which become secure notes that keep their details. Vallkey lists them before you confirm.
Can I keep using Proton Pass while I try Vallkey?
Yes. Importing changes nothing in the other app. Many people run both for a week, then cancel.
