Switch

Switch from 1Password

Export a .1pux file from 1Password, import it in Vallkey, and keep everything. It takes a few minutes.

Step by step

In 1Password

  1. 1

Open the 1Password app on your computer (not the browser extension).

  2. 2

Choose File › Export, and the account to export.

  3. 3

Pick the 1PUX format, and enter your 1Password password.

  4. 4

Save the file somewhere only you can reach.

In Vallkey

  1. 5

In Vallkey, open Settings › Import, and choose 1Password.

  2. 6

Choose a .1pux file. It's read on your device: nothing is sent anywhere unencrypted.

  3. 7

Check the summary of what will come over, then confirm.

  4. 8

Delete the export file, and empty the trash it went to: it holds your passwords in the clear.

What comes over

What comes over

  • Every item type: logins, notes, cards, identities, documents, and the rest
  • Documents, and the files attached to items
  • Websites, tags, favorites and the Archive
  • One-time passwords and password history
  • Vault names, as tags, when you export more than one vault

What doesn't

  • Items in the trash.
  • Passkeys: 1Password's .1pux export doesn't carry them. If your version of 1Password can export a Credential Exchange file, use that to bring them.

Still deciding? Compare Vallkey with 1Password.

Questions

Is it safe to export from 1Password?

The export file isn't encrypted, so keep it on your own computer, import it straight away, and delete it afterwards. Vallkey reads it on your device.

Will I lose anything?

A few things can't come over: Items in the trash; Passkeys: 1Password's .1pux export doesn't carry them. If your version of 1Password can export a Credential Exchange file, use that to bring them. Vallkey lists them before you confirm.

Can I keep using 1Password while I try Vallkey?

Yes. Importing changes nothing in the other app. Many people run both for a week, then cancel.
