Saving logins and suggested passwords

How Vallkey offers to save a login after you sign in, updates a changed password, and suggests strong passwords on sign-up forms.

Saving a login you just used

After you sign in somewhere new, Vallkey asks, in the corner of the page, whether to save the login. It asks once the next page has loaded, so it doesn’t offer to save a password the site just refused.

  • Save keeps the login, with the site’s address and your username.
  • Never for this site stops Vallkey offering to save new logins there, on all your devices. To undo it, open the popup on that site and choose Offer again.

If the login is already saved, Vallkey asks nothing.

Updating a password

When you change a password on a site, Vallkey offers to update the saved login that has the same username. The old password goes to the item’s password history.

Suggested passwords on sign-up

Click a new-password field, and Vallkey offers a strong password that follows the site’s own rules. Choosing it:

  1. fills the password, and the confirmation field too;
  2. saves the login at once, so a new account’s password can’t be lost;
  3. updates the username when you send the form, if you typed it afterwards.

While Vallkey is locked

Vallkey can’t tell whether a login is new while it’s locked, so the prompt offers Unlock. Once it’s unlocked, it asks to save or update as usual. The sign-in is kept in memory for up to two minutes, and forgotten if Vallkey locks again.

What Vallkey reads

Only the fields’ values at the moment you send a form. Never while you type.
