Keeping files with items

Add a file

Open an item and choose Add file. Pick a file of up to 100 MB. On a phone you can also pick from your photos.

Vallkey encrypts the file on your device, with a key of its own, then uploads it and lists it on the item. Adding a file needs a connection.

Open or save a file

Choose Download beside the file, or on a phone, tap it to preview it. On iPhone and iPad the preview is the system’s Quick Look; on Android, pictures, PDFs and text open inside Vallkey.

A preview uses an unencrypted copy that Vallkey deletes when the preview closes, and again whenever the vault locks.

Documents

A Document is an item whose file is the point: choose New item, then Document. Documents imported from 1Password arrive as documents.

What happens to files

• Moving an item to another vault takes its files with it.
• Deleting an item for good deletes its files from the server.
• Sharing a vault shares its items’ files with the vault’s members.
• Share links don’t include files.
• Exports include them only in the Vallkey with files format: see Exporting your vault.

Limits

A file is at most 100 MB, and the vaults you own hold up to 1 GB of files in all.
